The Case for Obama Pt. XII

There has been a lot of talk, but with the Democratic National Convention (DNC) starting today, the Campaign season officially begins. If the Clintons and their following fall in line this thing could be over by the end of the DNC. If they show U-N-I-T-Y they will galvanize this nation to what I am prediciting will be a 273-265 win for Obama in the Electoral College. This blog entry is not about that though, I will give the details on that prediction another day, today the topic is on nothing else than talk of the VP. We will call this one:

"Obama Bites Back with Biden"

I am of the opinion that VP selections do not necessarily help a candidate win an election, but they can certainly hurt your chances to win! This is precisely why Biden is the safe pick. Biden brings 3 things to this fight that will prove to have some value:

1) He has a wealth of experience and conficence that will allow him to mop the floor with anyone on the list of Republican VP candidates

2) His story is great, he raised his childern after his Spouse died, drives back to Delaware from DC every night to be with us family, he has a son being deployed to Iraq, the list goes on almost as if it was scripted (which it probably is)

3) He will flourish in the role of attack dog and may make the campaign more appealing to the "White People won't vote for a Black Man" demographic that Clinton referenced so often in her campaign.

What has been presented as negatives for Biden is what I a going to spin as strenghts for the Obama campaign. The Republicans are attacking this choice on 3 fronts, each of which I think can play right into Obama's hand:

1) Biden is quoted saying that Obama is not ready to be Presidnet during his own campaign for President. This is an interesting argument to present, cosidering it did not work for Clinton or Biden since they both lost to Obama being more prepared under whatever definition one chooses to make this argument. In addition, Obama picked him anyway! What better argument that this man is a uniter? He selected as his VP a man that said he was not ready to be President, and was able to convince this man to join him on the campaign trail.

2)Biden is quoted giving praise to McCain, which from the Republicans viewpoint means that he is endorsing McCain. Interesting... The man that endorses you has decided to run against your campaign for the Presidency? When Biden made those comments he was making a contrast to Bush and other Republicans that remained uncomprosing in their views even when they have been proven to be wrong by all accounts. McCain has basically spent the last 18 months disassociating himself from the positions that garnered these praises from Biden. Lastly, this is what reinforces the central message of the Obama campaign to unite and come to a common ground on the issues. Who better to do so than one who isn't afraid to praise the other party and recognize their value in the process. For all this talk of changing Washington, unfortunately Obama does not have the power to go in on Day 1 and fire every member of Congress. Most of the 535 members Congress that are there today will still be there. So all of the progress he wants to make will be through the same bunch of guys and girls that are in there today. In most cases it's the system or the process that needs a change not the personnel.

3) The McCain Campaign is using this opportunity to go after supporters of Hillary Clinton. Wow! This is pretty good, actually all of the attacks are good. At the same time they all have major flaws. Is McCain really going to rally Democratic voters running a campaign in which he has opposing viewpoint on almost every issue, and rally Women voters by proposing his wife compete in the Miss Buffalo Chip Contest??? If you are a lifelong Democrat and you are tempted to vote for McCain because you are angry at the Democratic Party what do you accomplish in voting for McCain? We'll show those Democrats! Oh, wait a minute I am a Democrat, duh... This would be the equivalent of punishing your child for making an A-, and the punishment would be not allowing him to go to school anymore.

Obama made a good choice, we now have 2 men on the ticket whose political ambition is centered around making life better for every day people. Unlike the Bush-McCain politicians interested in making life better for those that are already better off...

How Much Longer???

President Bush holding the flag backwards. I think this picture summarizes the entire term of the Bush Presidency. Maybe if he had been wearing his lapel pin, he would have been able to firgure out the right way to hold the flag. I think Keith Olberman from MSNBC stated it best,

"From his viewpoint everyhting appears to be OK!" Read more!

Love is...

When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then it subsides. When it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is!

Love is not breathless. Love is not excitement. Love is not the desire to mate every second of the day. Love is not lying awake at night imagining that your lover is kissing every part of your body.

That is just being in love--which any of us can convince ourselves that we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away.

Doesn't sound very exciting does it? But it is! Read more!

The Case for Obama Pt. XI

When I first saw the McCain funded "The One" attack ad against Barack Obama it had to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Not the actual ad being humorous, but the thought that this is what the McCain campaign considered a relevant attack ad. An attack ad to say don't vote for the popular guy, that every one loves, and speaks well, vote for the stumbling bumbling idiot like you did in the last 2 elections. Isn't that the guy that is more like you? Why vote for greatness when you can vote for mediocrity?

I am not sure either of them (Paris or Brittney) would have crowds of over 70,000 in Oregon and Denver, and over 200,000 in Berlin, but he is ignoring a very simple fact. People come to see Britney Spears to see a concert and be entertained, they would come to see Paris Hilton because?? I guess because she is hot?

When they come to see Barack Obama they come to stand in line for several hours, sit in a stadium for another hour, and listen to him give a speech for an hour describing economic policies, strategies for energy independence, improving our educational system, rescuing our health care system, among a dozen other topics. If this is the same audience that goes to see Britney and Hilton than the world is in for a CHANGE because you have just mobilized a NEW GENERATION of voters.

I would have never expected the best response to this attack ad would come from Paris Hilton herself. Paris nailed it in her video, not just for McCain but for Obama and all other politicians as well. The answer to the issues that affect the American people are not based on what political party you belong to. The best answer is the best answer no matter where it comes from, and there is usually multiple solutions that are necessary to make any significant progress.

Daily Observations: "Overexposed"

This one follows my usual trend of very silly daily observations, but this has to be one of the most disturbing. At this event a few days ago I had to make a pit stop in the men's restroom. As I walked in and walked towards the urinal I saw something I can honestly say I have never seen in over 30 years of living on this place we call Earth.

As I walked in there was a man standing in front of the urinal with his pants down all the way to his ankles, and yes accompanying those pants were his underwear. So I walked in on bare buns. I have never seen that before when walking into a men's restroom. I am not certain what he may have been doing.

After about 2 seconds of shock I quickly exited the restroom, not even acknowledging what I had just seen. I left too quickly to understand what it is he may have been doing and why he chose the urinal for this and not one of the stalls. Very Disturbing.... Read more!
